For the second consecutive year, PRS Guitars is the official sponsor of the SXSW “Shred Shed,” a large soundproof space at the 2015 SXSW Music Expo. PRS will have the latest guitars, basses and amplifiers available and invites SXSW visitors to walk in the Shred Shed, shut the door and crank up the volume. Located in the Austin Convention Center Exhibit Hall 5, the PRS Shred Shed is also a great place to chat with PRS staff and PRS SXSW showcasing artists while seeing and playing the latest PRS gear.

As a teenager, Paul Reed Smith dreamed of building guitars decorated with European-style dragons. Paul’s dream became reality in 1992 when he unveiled his first limited edition Dragon guitar. Since that time, PRS Guitars has introduced only seven Dragon editions, each in very limited numbers. These guitars have become among the most desirable instruments in the company’s history, earning their place in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, the Musical Instruments Museum, in Phoenix, Arizona, and the National Guitar Museum, a traveling exhibit now located at the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey. This year for PRS Guitar's 30th Anniversary, the 8th Dragon guitar will be released.

The band Periphery has become a force to be reckoned with in the progressive metal scene with their unique “djent” sound, poly-rhythmic patterns and soaring melodies. Guitarist Mark Holcomb helps achieve this full, lethal sound with PRS guitars loaded with Seymour Duncan Mark Holcomb Signature Pickups dubbed “Alpha” and “Omega.” In conjunction with Periphery’s 2015 Juggernaut tour, Holcomb and PRS have joined forces to produce a limited edition signature model based on the company’s flagship Custom 24 model and personalized with some unique, artist-specified features that deliver a bold, impressive sound.

Weeks before announcing their 2015 line up, PRS Guitars is introducing three new all-mahogany S2 Series guitars: the S2 Standard 24, S2 Standard 22, and S2 Singlecut Standard. The original PRS Standard, introduced in 1987, evolved from Paul Reed Smith’s Pre-Factory all-mahogany instruments. Reimagined for the S2 Series, these guitars feature the subtle aesthetic of mahogany and pickguard-mounted electronics for a vintage vibe with modern versatility and playability that is perfect for the gigging musician. All three models have solid mahogany bodies, set mahogany necks, versatile electronics, and tried-and-true PRS quality.

The Archon 25 brings the ‘king’ of PRS high-gain amplification to the world of small, low wattage tube amps. The Archon’s lush distortion and singing clean channel tones are all here in a 25 watt package (switchable to 13 watts via the back panel). The Archon 25’s wattage makes the amp easier to push to optimum performance – tube amps sound best when pushed a little – and it gets there at a lower volume, which is a huge benefit not only at home, but also in the studio and on the stage. Recording with an amp at lower volumes allows for a cleaner signal and a truer tone, and keep the soundman happy by not blowing out the other members of the band.

The progressive metal band, Between the Buried and Me has a sound that is heavy yet melodic, lush but menacing - a tone that rhythm guitarist Dustie Waring achieves with PRS guitars and amplifiers. Since 2008, Waring has traditionally used a PRS Custom 24 outfitted with Floyd Rose tremolo system both on tour and in the studio. Recently, Waring and PRS Guitars got together to create a limited edition signature model that would look and sound even more vicious than Dustie’s current PRS guitar. The SE A10E is the first all-mahogany guitar in the SE Angelus line up. The all-mahogany body construction of this guitar provides a controlled attack and strong fundamental, delivering a warm, woody tone with a focused, punchy midrange. This strong midrange character allows the A10E to easily find a non-competing place in a mix, making it ideal for both the studio and the stage.

Gustavo Cerati, one of Latin America’s most celebrated musicians passed away on Thursday, September 04, 2014.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear friend, Brian Farmer. Long time guitar tech and friend to Warren Haynes, Brian was extremely devoted to his work and has followed and supported Warren through the various bands he’s played with over the decades including the Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule, the Dead and Phil Lesh & Friends. Brian will be missed by many here at PRS Guitars and his friends and colleagues in the music industry. He personally touched the lives of so many folks he worked with. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and all of his industry peers that had the good fortune and pleasure of knowing and working with Brian.

On the evening of Monday, October 13th, Paul Reed Smith Guitars will host the 15th Anniversary of the acclaimed One Night One Show One Cause Benefit Concert, presented by The Baltimore Sun Media Group for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. This year’s event will take place at the Modell Center for the Performing Arts at the Lyric Opera House in Downtown Baltimore, Maryland, and will feature an exclusive performance by SANTANA.
