Q&A with Guitarist, Brock Hunter.

How long has State of Mind been in the making?

The current project State of Mind was in the making for 2 years.

Describe your creative process when writing and recording the material on the new album?

When it came to the creative process of writing and recording for the new album, it was a personal/collective process. Personally, I listen to a ton of music. I get inspired by music and it’s where I get my ideas. So I love taking what is already created and putting my own twist on it, making it my own. I also have 4 brothers so we have a collective way of creating music. We all have different strengths so we work well together, bringing ideas, influences and past experiences into the whole process.

What PRS model do you play and how does it fit your playing style?

I play a Custom 24 in Black Gold Burst. I bought this guitar because its tone fits the rock/country sound I’m looking for. I love the scale length. I play with a lot of energy and it’s not too heavy. It’s gorgeous.

What do you do to warm up before you hit the stage?

I grew up playing classical piano, so scales were a vital part of every warm up. I warm up before every show by playing the major/minor scales, pentatonic scales, and I run through each song I’m going to performing live. I usually play the Super Mario brothers theme song as well : )

When you aren’t writing music or touring, what do you like to do during your free time?

I’m an adrenaline junkie and I also love to build things, so my free-time consists of building rat rods, high performance cars, and my latest project has been building an airplane. I’ve had my pilots license for almost 10 years and I love to fly aerobatics.

Who are your three biggest influences?

1. Keith Urban

2. John Mayer

3. Brad Paisley
