How It's Made: Blue Fade and Grey Black Fade Finishes

Have you ever had a "how do they do that" reaction to a fade finish? Our talented employees on the staining bench have a methodical approach to these creations. It starts with a perfectly sanded natural maple guitar body, and ends in a beautiful transition of colors and hues. We sped up the videos to quickly show how the layers are applied, but it takes about 6-7 minutes for our employees to stain by hand. After the stain is applied, there is a lengthy grain-fill, basecoat, and topcoat process to add more texture to the back grain, seal in the color, and protect the guitars for years of happy playing.
