For the 2025 model year, we're thrilled to introduce the new DMO & McCarty III pickups. These two exciting new pickup designs will be available on select PRS Core models.
In this blog we tell the behind-the-scenes story of the pickup development process, highlight specs and frequency charts, and unveil the 2025 models that will feature these brand new designs.
After two years of R&D and considerable hours spent play-testing, we can't wait for PRS players around the world to try these pickups.

DMO Pickups
DMO stands for Dynamic, Musical, Open.
DMO pickups were spec’d by Paul Reed Smith and the PRS New Products Engineering team. From our own hands-on research into coveted vintage pickup models to advancements in signal analyzation and “tuning” technology, these pickups incorporate every detail of pickup knowledge PRS has gained in recent years of R&D.
PRS DMO pickups have a “wide open” sound with vocal character, meaning they deliver clear, pleasant-sounding tones across a wide range of frequencies (bass to treble) in each pickup.
DMO pickups will be equipped on the following models:
McCarty III Pickups
McCarty pickups were first introduced in the 1990’s, and while there were never pickups named McCarty II, we consider these the third iteration of one of our most popular pickup models from our past.
McCarty III pickups were spec’d by Paul Reed Smith and the PRS New Products Engineering team. From our own hands-on research into coveted vintage pickup models to advancements in signal analyzation and “tuning” technology, these pickups incorporate every detail of pickup knowledge PRS has gained in recent years of R&D.
PRS McCarty III pickups are vintage-inspired humbuckers that bring a vocal clarity to their full, warm tone.
