2016 is a special year because it celebrates the 20th Anniversary of our custom shop, affectionally known as Private Stock. For this anniversary year, Private Stock is bringing back the “Guitar Of The Month” program - a new experimental guitar design will be released in small numbers each month of 2016! Private Stock is an area of the PRS shop where the most unique instrument building takes place. As a matter of fact, that is exactly how Private Stock came to be. As a builder, Paul Reed Smith felt the urge to try something different and Private Stock was his creative outlet. All of this began in the mid 1990’s, but Private Stock is here today, celebrating their 20th Anniversary, and still experimenting through the Guitar Of The Month program.

We call the August Guitar Of The Month, the "Custom 24 8-String."

Custom 24 8-String

Released in the 8th month of the year in an extremely limited quantity of 8 pieces, the Custom 24 8-string is a rare beast. These instruments mark the first time in Private Stock's history that a limited run of 8-string instruments are available to the public.

If you're a guitarist looking for more, this Guitar of the Month provides just that. More registers available; more chord options; and more tonal range. Originally inspired by an 8-String designed with Periphery’s Mark Holcomb, we wanted these guitars to inspire new technique and work within the context of any musical style. The inclusion of Holcomb’s signature Seymour Duncan Alpha and Omega pickups offer a snarling and aggressive tone that is also glassy and articulate.

The August Custom 24 8-String models feature a Curly Maple Top, Swamp Ash back, Curly Maple Neck, and African Blackwood fingerboard. The 26.5" scale length and 24 fret neck features a wide thin neck shape that feels both comfortable and fast. All 8 instruments will be finished in Frostbite Glow and are tuned to F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E.
