PRS Guitars Offers New and Limited Edition Maryland-made Instruments at ‘Experience PRS’ 2011 Event
Posted Sep 22, 2011
Experience PRS has become one of MI’s largest single-manufacturer events, one that PRS Guitars uses as a platform to introduce new models and limited runs to the marketplace. With the NF3 and DC3 models being updated to include a bird inlay option and three limited edition Maryland-made electric guitars—the Stripped 58, Swamp Ash Studio, and the Experience PRS 2011 Custom 24 - this year’s event is no exception.
Bird inlays have become synonymous with PRS, and offer value and distinctiveness to the guitars they adorn. The popular NF3 and DC3 models, introduced in September 2010, are now being permanently updated to include a bird inlay option for the first time. The NF3 and DC3 offer versatility, clarity, and rich, resonant tone, thanks to the 5-way blade switch, V12 finish, and wood choice combinations (korina and alder, respectively). Their “Pattern Regular” bolt-on necks and flat body design paired with PRS designed 57/08 Narrowfield® and DC3 Singlecoil pickups help make both the NF3 and DC3 modern classics.
The Stripped 58 offers straightforward tone and quality in an attractive, no-nonsense package. A vintage-inspired instrument perfect for more traditional singlecutaway players, the 58 has a classic resonant voice that is eminently recordable and gig ready. It is also instantly comfortable to players who grew up playing short scale guitars. The Stripped 58 has all the essential PRS specifications, including a maple top with mahogany back, a 24.5” scale length, 22 fret mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard and bird inlays. The 58 also offers PRS Guitars’ newer 2-piece bridge, 57/08 pickups, and “Pattern” neck profile.
Like the acclaimed Studio model, the Swamp Ash Studio is an updated take on a traditional single-single-hum guitar with PRS’s proprietary 57/07 Narrowfield® pickups in the middle and bass positions in conjunction with a 57/08 humbucking bridge pickup. This pickup combination in conjunction with a 5-way blade pickup selector makes this guitar extremely versatile. The addition here of the swamp ash body helps provide clear bell-like highs, pronounced mids, and strong lows, and the bolt-on figured maple neck is lightly sealed for a natural, comfortable feel. The Stripped 58 and Swamp Ash Studio Limited Edition models will not be limited to a specific quantity, but to a limited order window (ending October 14).
The Experience PRS event has become a significant part of PRS history and music industry calendars. Specially appointed to commemorate the 5th annual Experience PRS event, the Experience 2011 Custom 24 is adorned with an artist grade top with matching headstock veneer, the original PRS tremolo cavity carve, black and white mother of pearl bird inlays, and an artist case. The small eagle on the headstock has been updated to match the 2011 PRS birds and pays homage to Paul’s “pre-factory” guitars; this feature has become a tradition for Experience PRS limited runs. These instruments also features the new PRS 5-way blade switch and covered 59/09 pickups with custom etched pickup covers, offering versatility and uncompromised tone. This run is limited to 200 pieces worldwide and comes in four colors: Burnt Almond, Faded Abalone, Gold Burst, and Orange Tiger (50 of each color will be made).
