This guitar originally came out of our factory as a stock “Floyd” Custom 24. Released in 2014, this model adds a Floyd Rose “Original” Tremolo and Locking Nut to our popular Custom 24 platform. It comes with nickel hardware, our uncovered \m/ Treble & Bass pickups, and a volume and tone control accompanied by a 5-way blade switch.
Here’s a look at the possible tones and switching positions on the stock model:
Position One: Bridge humbucker
Position Two: Bridge humbucker with neck singlecoil, in parallel
Position Three: Bridge and neck humbuckers
Position Four: Neck singlecoil with bridge singlecoil, in parallel
Position Five: Neck humbucker
While the stock model features a nice tonal spectrum, this PTC customer wanted to take things a step further. First, all the nickel hardware was stripped off and replaced with gold hardware. The hardware swap included changing out the nickel Floyd for a gold one and replacing the uncovered \m/ pickups with gold 59/09’s.
The PTC then made some electronics configuration changes. Instead of the normal 5-way blade switch, this guitar received a 3-way blade switch and added two mini-toggle switches. The mini-toggles were set up to split the coils in the pickups. The customer was now able to have everything the 5-way blade would have offered, plus the addition of three more tones: bridge singlecoil only, neck singlecoil only, and neck humbucker with bridge singlecoil!
Another satisfied musician and a job well done by our talented folks in the PTC. If you would like to make some modifications made to your PRS, get in touch with our PTC here!
