John McLaughlin's Shakti Announces New Album & Tour

Visionary guitarist John McLaughlin and master Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain have reunited to reform their legendary fusion ensemble, Shakti. In addition to co-founders McLaughlin and Hussain, Shakti’s current lineup features vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, and percussionist Selvaganesh Vinayakram. Pioneers of the “world music” genre, Shakti began merging musical traditions from the east and west in ways now taken for granted back in the early seventies. Reuniting in celebration of the group’s fiftieth anniversary, both a new album and tour have been announced. This Moment will be Shakti’s first studio release in forty-six years, and the tour will see the group performing throughout the U.S. for the first time in eighteen years! Select dates will feature support from virtuoso guests Jerry Douglas, Béla Fleck, Bill Frisell or John Scofield.
